James Tallmadge Jr.:
James Tallmadge Jr. was one of the first people to kick off this bill, and it was done with intention opposite to the outcome. He proposed a plan where slavery would be completely banned in Missouri. This became a heated topic among congress since other states got to choose, if Missouri could not, it would have less rights than the other states. |
Henry Clay:
Henry Clay played one of the most vital roles in the bill by coming up with the content. He is the man who decided to split it into two parts. One of which was that Missouri would be let in as a slave state while maine woule be let in as a free state. The other is that no more states above the designated parallel would be admitted as slave states.

President James Monroe:
James Monroe played the most vital role in this by calling the final shot and signing the bill, putting it into action. Him signing the bill surprised quite a few people since it was so highly debated and controversial. He most likely felt pushed to sign it since the country was getting pushy and it seemed like the best option for letting Missouri in as a state. |
